So I got hold of a guide yesterday and have been skimming through it.
Some interesting facts about having babies. So sayeth the guide...
If you want a girl, have your pregnant sim eat three servings of watermelon, this increases the chances of having a girl.
My sim Jupe tried this- she did have a girl.
Want a boy? Eat three apples during pregnancy.
haven't tested that yet.
Number of babies- want twins or triplets? Then watch the kids channel on tv or listen to the kids station on the stereo. Doing either slightly increases the chance for twins and triplets. Doing both at the same time really improves your chances.
I did have her watch and listen at the same time during her first pregnancy, she had a single birth.
The second time however she did infact have twins. Boys.
Strangely enough only 1 of her 3 children got her green skin.
They are all cute though.
I'm so glad she didn't have triplets- because 3 toddlers in the house was insane. lol. Lupe, her daughter just became a child, the boys will grow up really soon.
On that note, you know you can grow a Sim up at any stage without waiting for a pop up? You simply buy a cake and have the sim you want to age click on the cake. You often get a pop up so you can choose who blows the candles out anyway. I really like this, especially for babies.
If the mother had a good pregnancy- defined in the guide as 'keep her alive and happy, a few massages either from partner or at the Spa, read a pregnancy book or two and satisfy the food cravings' then you get to choose two traits for the baby when it's born. (My sim had a want to eat mac and cheese- easy), then she wanted spaghetti and ice cream, and not matter how I fed her them or in which order, she didn't fulfil the want- I half expected an option to 'mix them together' come up, but it never. lol. So don't take that part as gospel.
Teaching a toddler potty, walk and talk also allows you to choose their 3rd trait when they age to childhood. Otherwise the game chooses for you. There is a randomizer button in the trait panel, incase you didn't know and fancy something different on occasion.
Happy child rearing. Boy, do these toddlers scream sometimes- they are louder than TS2 kids!
*edit*. I should add that when a Sim goes into labour you have the option to have the baby at hospital or at home. If you choose hospital your Sim grabs a taxi and they pull up at the hospital, she disappears inside (followed by a partner if they choose to go) and after about 2 sim hours you get the pop up to name/assign traits) to the baby.
A home birth is 2 hours of drawn out, face-pulling, heavy-heaving madness where the father spent the entire time jumping around like a lunatic. Seriously, the guy can put out a fire but can't handle labour?! (see the 'I didn't kill her but she did faint' thread.
