Thought I'd start off this thread, there are things that keep coming up and I'm not sure if there is anywhere to write them. I was wondering how do you make cookies for the local school? It's an opportunity that comes up and I have no idea where to start. The othere opportunites you can usually work out but not this one. Any help will be appreciated. regards, Jen

Jen,
My Sim has an opportunity to make two group meals of peanut butter and jelly and bring it to the restaurant where he works as a chef. I have no clue how to make group meals. Does anyone here know how to do that?
Best Regards, Nik

Hi Nik, 1. I found out that for the cookie one anyway you get the recipe book and read it. Did that, so it appeared as an option to cook. 2. Then you bake 2 serving plates and you are supposed to put them in your inventory. 3.Then when you are done go to the neighbourhood view and find the school, which I did, but at that time had the cookies in the fridge as leftovers. 4.When I clicked over the deliver cookies message over the school, it was greyed out and it said I hadn't got all the things necessary in the inventory. So I am asuming you can put them in your inventory and then wait until it clears you to deliver them. I assume that is the same with the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Except that you don't have to read a book for them, they appear after you have a few cooking skill points. Hope this helps, I'm going to try it again when I go into the game. (The group meals is just a serving so you would need to make 2 servings to share not a single plate, that's all regards, Jen

The Group meal is just a 'serve' meal as opposed to a 'have' meal. You have to put it in your inventory to deliver it, but don't leave it in there too long or it will rot. (It takes a bit of practise to get things in your inventory I've found Jen).
Today I had to create a 'nice' meal for a family and take it to them- most meals improve in quality the more you make them. You start off usually making a 'normal' meal, it improves to nice, very nice etc.
The better your skill, and the better your ingredients (home grown are best if good quality) is the recipe for a perfect meal. You can buy fresh fruit/veg/fish at the supermarket though as well.
There are quite a few recipes to learn, you can also learn a new one from watching the cooking channel and talking to other sims who have the 'natural cook' trait- I forget the actual line, but it's something like 'share culinary tips'. My sim learnt to bake cookies that way.
One thing that bugs me is that you have to buy 2 of each books to advance in culinary, mechanical and logic. (First of each are in any bookcase, but once at level 3 you need Cooking/mech/logic part 2, then part 3 at level 6 or 7).
I also find my books disappear from the bookcase which is annoying. I assume that's a bug. Sometimes the bookstore or supermarket have sale days- watch out for pop ups because that can really make a difference, especially with books which cost a fortune.

Twoyys when your books disappear from the bookshelf they are generally in your personal inventory. Go into the tab, Click on the book and you can either read it or put it away

I did have my Sim make a plate of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and then I cancelled his action just before he grabbed a serving. I wasn't able to add the plate of sandwiches to his inventory. I guess I just need to be persistent and figure out a way to get them into his inventory. Or was I supposed to grab two individual servings from the plate and add those to his inventory? I guess I need to experiment to find out. Thanks for all your help!

I figured it out, Nik. Well it worked for the cookies, so I am assuming it will work for yours too. 1. you make 2 serves of pp & J sandwiches. 2. Cancel so he/she doesn't eat them 3. Put them away as leftovers 4. Get your sim to "open fridge" and you can shift them in the buy mode into your inventory. They appear in that window and you can shift them from there. 5. Then just follow the instructions on when you can deliver them, some have "hours between", others have "certain days" some are available any time once they are in the inventory. Don't leave them in there too long, they will spoil. Try it and let me know if it works. regards, Jen

Ok, so I made a community wedding venue (or any party venue really). I uploaded it to my page but I can't seem to choose it as an actual venue in my game. It's definitely set as a commercial property over residential.
Maybe you need to reload the game for it to work, I will leave it on my page for now incase anyone wants to try it out, but I'll test it myself tomorrow. (oops- 1.30am- ok, later today!). LOL.

I just love all the help everyone is providing. One question though, can anyone tell me how to make my Sim jog around town. It was an opportunity but I could not get him to jog anywhere but near home.

To make your Sim jog you go in to the neighbourhood view and choose a place to go and then zoom in and click to where you want to go. Your Sim will automatically jog there. Also where ever you are you can choose to go somewhere there and then by clicking and saying jog. regards, Jen

Books that do not appear in the bookshelf, are generally in your inventory, though if your sim got the book from the shelf, then they will put it back there. Some books will not, go back to the shelf when you are done, the 2 exceptions i know of are all the recipe books, (cookies, ambrosia, angel food cake etc) and the songs you buy at the shop for the guitar. These are used up when you read them fully.

Well, after a lot of experimenting, I finally figured out how to place a guitar into a Sim's inventory. It wasn't easy! But now that I've figured it out, a couple of my music-oriented Sims have them in their inventory. You never know when it would be a good time to Play for Tips!

How did you do it? :lol I got the hot dogs into my sims inventory but when she went to deliver them, the game said she didnt have them? Arrrggh! Another question. I finally figured out how to download Riverview, but my pc asked me what application I wanted to use?

Sandysimmer,
To get the guitar into inventory, first place it on the lot. Open your Sim's inventory. Click on the guitar to grab it. You might need to wait a bit for it to be grabbed. Keep holding down on your mouse button. Drag it into the Sim's inventory where the other items are found. It's as simple as that. It takes a bit of trial-and-error to get it done, but once you figure out the technique, you should have no problem with it.
As for Riverview, once you've downloaded it, it should appear in your Sims3 Launcher in the Downloads tab. It is installed just like any other item. If you didn't get it from The Store, then you need to unzip it and place it into your C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. Please not that your pc might have something other than Owner in the path. Don't double-click on the Sims3Pack file. Just place it into the folder. I hope this helps.
Best Regards, Nik
