First Impressions of The Sims 3
« Thread Started on Jun 8, 2009, 12:19pm »

I thought I'd start a new thread wherein we can talk about our first impressions with this game. Here are mine:

1. It seems more like the original The Sims than The Sims 2. Having a pre-defined neighborhood with specific locations wherein to place lots.

2. A lot of the object meshes from TS2 were reused for TS3. I don't mind that, actually. Gives a sense of continuity.

3. I absolutely love the way we can recolor objects, walls, floors, clothing, etc. Just love it! I think EA got it right with this one. I do wish I could recolor the stairs, though. The wooden one would look great in white. ::)

4. Meeting other Sims and dating and building relationships is a lot of work. Just like real life, I guess. I'm so used to the Tombstone of L&D with the option to make friends or to make everyone on the lot a friend (90/90 relationship). I guess I miss that one.

5. I also miss having a maxmotives cheat. I think I would give up motherlode to have it. I really do.

6. I love watching my Sims jog or ride a bike around town! I don't think I'll have too many cars in my game.

7. Not used to seeing all those overweight Sims. Even fat Sims in TS2 weren't all that fat. TS3 makes it look all too real. I guess all my Sims will have a membership at the gym and/or equipment at home.

8. I love the TS3 Launcher with the ability to download and upload custom content.

9. Wondering when we will be able to create our own neighborhoods. Looking forward to creating our own neighborhood for all of us to use.

So what are your thoughts?

Best Regards,
Nik

Nik, before I answer this I will put you out of your misery. Bring up the cheat box and type 'testingcheatsenabled true' (no apostrophe- no boolprop), just as I typed it. You don't get as many options as with TS2, but you can drag the need bars back into the green, you can shift click on the mailbox to get other options I think too. Also, you can shift click on a sim and set their traits (which I found handy because I kept forgetting to actually add the traits, lol).

I must say, I've used it to drag motives up. :)
so there, I know you will be a happy Nik now. 8-)

so my opinions,

1). Love the open neighbourhood, I like my sims exploring and picking up various bits and pieces and generally chatting to anyone. I really like that you can visit other sims homes. Did you know if they aren't home you can 'look through window' and the house will open up for you to see inside.

Also, you can sometimes rummage in other sims trash- my sim found a plutonium rock, once she had it cut it doubled in price and netted her almost 3K! :)

2). The recolouring is awesome! I just love when my sims age up or I want to redecorate something. :)

3). It's fun to see some of the old stuff in this game, but nice to see new things too. I really like how you can just click on a building in town to get a job, and I LOVE how Elders can have full time jobs as well now. (finally!).

4). I like the bikes and jogging too. Some of the cars are so expensive! I do know that when you reach the Top of some careers you get the really expensive car driving you home, and it takes seconds! Watch it and you get dizzy- lol.

5). I'm so glad we can carry on cooking and gardening, because that part is fun for me.

Nik, you should check out MATY- someone there already made a new 'hood. I haven't downloaded it but I'm sure there are hints and tips how to do it.

There are a few things that bug me, I find it annoying that you can't tell the difference between young adults and adults. I just had Jupe (my alien sim) celebrate her adulthood birthday and choose a partner- Wesley the fireman, heh. When she threw a wedding party he turned up as an Elder! oh well, their time will be short but sweet. :)

I shall be back with more,
Twoyys

:P We did this over at Thyme too. Just added a few things and copy/pasted it.

LIKES:

*That you can clean your teeth in any basin/sink/mirror
*Hang out with work mates while at work and make friends.
*Walls and wallpaper movement. (a huge timesaver)
*Food spoilage is of a reasonable length of time, and saves you money if you use it up until it is gone.
*That you can put an alarm on the outside of the house
*The opportunities including those to help others if you have the skills and getting paid for it!
*Being able to follow your Sims around so you don't lose track of them.
*The scenery and the sunset and sunrise
*The ease of changing the pattern/colour of objects/clothes etc. I feel like a real creator...well almost, really just a re-colourer.
*I like the launcher too.
*Love the fact that you can use the corners of your counters in the kitchen/bathroom and the Sims can also access them.
*The opportunities are fun, once you work them out.
*That it still has motherlode and Kaching.

DISLIKES:

*stupid laughs if you have a Sim with a good sense of humour
*coughing/choking every time they eat
*the inflexibility of the eye shapes and changing the facial features of the Sims is not anywhere near as effective as Sims 2 but I guess time will tell and there will be cc coming out, it already is.
*Not being able to modify the roof colours.
*The change of the look of the Sims I make that happens from CAS to the in-game play.
*The walls and floors are courser, darker, chunky and not as refined as in Sims 2. That will improve with a bit of playing around I guess.

I'll add more as I play more of the game.

regards, Jen
